Capabilities

Our autonomous-systems practice builds the planning and threat-detection skills that protect people and critical assets against unmanned systems across the air, ground, and maritime domains, from Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and drones to ground and surface platforms. This Counter-Unmanned Systems (C-UxS) work spans detection and asset protection.

Every engagement integrates the structures practitioners already operate within, including Incident Command System and National Incident Management System (ICS/NIMS), Antiterrorism and Force Protection (AT/FP), air defense, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Planning adapts to any security or military planning process an organization already uses, including MDMP, JPP, NPP, MCPP, and APP.

The capability is delivered through more than one program. The C-UAS Critical Infrastructure Planners Workshop (CIPC) addresses critical infrastructure, and C-UAS for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) addresses the EOD mission set. Each is scoped to the planning problem and the audience it serves.

APSI and our partners blend traditional tradecraft with advanced OSINT and dark web techniques, guiding teams through the tools, technologies, and best practices needed to gather, analyze, and act on publicly available information. The work spans surface web and social media intelligence through dark web investigations, with a strong emphasis on operational security and on methods that maintain the highest ethical and legal standards so findings can stand up to court scrutiny.

Our partners and faculty provide over 45 separate specializations in the field of OSINT, and every engagement is customizable to an agency's mission, supporting decision-makers across intelligence, law enforcement, and many other mission areas.

APSI advises and trains U.S. federal and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) planners across the intersection of cybersecurity and AI/ML. This service area is led by Dr. Maurice E. Dawson, APSI Associate Faculty, whose work spans cybersecurity, digital forensics, and the secure adoption of AI/ML, and who is affiliated with the Illinois Institute of Technology Center for Cyber Security and Forensics Education (C2SAFE).

The approach is standards-based and research-informed, built to hold up under audit, so mission owners can adopt new capability while keeping risk understood and managed at every step. Engagements align to the National Institute of Standards and Technology Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF), the ISO/IEC 27001 standard, and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), with audit-ready documentation throughout.

APSI supports federal and state clients on NIST RMF implementation, Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) compliance, and audit readiness; private-sector organizations on enterprise risk management and secure AI integration; and international organizations on ISO/IEC 27001 governance and standards-aligned policy development.
