Autonomous Systems | Counter-UAS (C-UAS)

Training and threat detection for Unmanned Systems (UxS) across every operating domain, including Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and drones, with a focus on detection and asset protection.

Our autonomous-systems practice builds the planning and threat-detection skills that protect people and critical assets against unmanned systems across the air, ground, and maritime domains, from Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and drones to ground and surface platforms. This Counter-Unmanned Systems (C-UxS) work spans detection and asset protection.

Every engagement integrates the structures practitioners already operate within, including Incident Command System and National Incident Management System (ICS/NIMS), Antiterrorism and Force Protection (AT/FP), air defense, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Planning adapts to any security or military planning process an organization already uses, including MDMP, JPP, NPP, MCPP, and APP.

The capability is delivered through more than one program. The C-UAS Critical Infrastructure Planners Workshop (CIPC) addresses critical infrastructure, and C-UAS for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) addresses the EOD mission set. Each is scoped to the planning problem and the audience it serves.

Cybersecurity and AI/ML

A standards-based practice that helps U.S. federal and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) planners adopt new capability across cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) without accepting unmanaged risk.

APSI advises and trains U.S. federal and state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) planners across the intersection of cybersecurity and AI/ML. This service area is led by Dr. Maurice E. Dawson, APSI Associate Faculty, whose work spans cybersecurity, digital forensics, and the secure adoption of AI/ML, and who is affiliated with the Illinois Institute of Technology Center for Cyber Security and Forensics Education (C2SAFE).

The approach is standards-based and research-informed, built to hold up under audit, so mission owners can adopt new capability while keeping risk understood and managed at every step. Engagements align to the National Institute of Standards and Technology Risk Management Framework (NIST RMF), the ISO/IEC 27001 standard, and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), with audit-ready documentation throughout.

APSI supports federal and state clients on NIST RMF implementation, Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) compliance, and audit readiness; private-sector organizations on enterprise risk management and secure AI integration; and international organizations on ISO/IEC 27001 governance and standards-aligned policy development.
